     Linux is an open-source operating system that is growing in popularity in the software market. It is the opposite of Microsoft when it comes to licensing and cost. With Linux there is little to no cost for the software along with no licensing issues.  Linux is the most reliable operating system on the market and there is virtually no downtime due to system failures. When using Linux, the phrase “my computer is frozen” is unheard of! The only downside to using Linux is the learning curve for most Windows users and application compatibility issues.      The Linux operating system is not supported by a large Fortune 500 organization, it is support by software enthusiasts throughout the world. They release all of the updates and free software available for Linux.  Using Linux as a file server and desktop operating system is sometimes a better option for businesses that are on a tight budget.  Maintenance and support of Linux is higher because of the lack of qualified technicians and consultants available.
